The Federal Student Aid Account (FSA) ID is a username 和 password which allows both students 和 contributor(s) to log into the FASFA each year 和 access other federal 学生资助相关网站，如 StudentAid.政府 外部网站. It can serve as your legal signature on 联邦学生资助 platforms.
Each student 和 their contributor(s) require a separate FSA ID.

A student's dependency status determines whose information they must report when filing 联邦助学金免费申请表.

A 依赖学生 is assumed to have the support of parents, so the parents’ information must be assessed along with the student’s to get a full picture of the family’s financial 资源. 如果你是 依赖学生, it doesn’t mean your parents are required to pay anything toward your education; this information is simply used to determine the student’s maximum eligibility for 联邦学生资助.
A student's dependency status 和 required contributor(s) will also be determined 当学生提交FAFSA时.
If a student is considered dependent for FAFSA purposes, the student must provide information about their legal parent(s) on the application. 这可能包括学生的 biological or adoptive parent (including step-parent).
In the case of parental divorce or separation, the parent who provides the greater portion of the student's financial support will be the contributor 和 create an FSA ID. Please note: If that parent is re-结婚了, the step-parent would also be included 在学生的FAFSA.

Do Both parents (including step-parent) need an FSA ID?
One parent contributor will be required to create an FSA ID unless:

- There may be other exemptions based on tax filing
